Aug 2022 Intro to Carpentry Graduation

The following people completed the Introduction to Carpentry course at Tea Creek:

  • Bert Good Jr.

  • Dakota Martin

  • Donald Bolton Jr.

They achieved at a minimum the following competencies:

  • Safety training: PPE, safety meetings, tool safety

  • Tools and equipment: Identify and safely use tools and equipment, including at a minimum:

    • Hand Tools (hammer, saw, level, square, tape measures, etc)

    • Portable Power Tools (Battery powered drill, impact, circular saw, jig saw, etc)

    • Stationary Power Tools (chop saw, table saw, drill press)

    • Air Tools (nail guns, etc)

    • Site layout and measuring tools

  • Perform trade math

  • Site Layout and Prep

    • Layout building locations (stake out)

    • Prepare building site, including proper excavation and preparation by hand or supervise machine work

  • Wood Frame Construction

    • Describe and apply wood materials (2x4, 2x6, 1x6, etc)

    • Build basic structures from raw wood materials

  • Building Science:

    • Understand forces acting on buildings: Settling, frost heave, wind, snow load, moisture

    • Understand building wraps, moisture barriers
